Celebrating Europe: The Schwarzkopf Europe Award 2018

Every year, a young jury of the Schwarzkopf Foundation selects a person or institution that has shown extraordinary engagement for Europe as the Schwarzkopf Europe Awardee. In 2018, the award will go to Margrethe Vestager, EU Commissioner for Competition.

Danish Politician Margrethe Vestager has been the EU Commissioner for Competition since 2014. The young jury of the Schwarzkopf Europe Award selected her for her brilliant interpretation of her role and the great courage she has shown in pushing for compliance with EU laws. The commissioner has also engaged in bringing EU institutions closer to their constituents throughout her career. In a time where the world economy is increasingly globally oriented and where tax havens and huge corporations steer the economy, new and daring thinking is more needed than ever. Of this Mrs. Vestager is an excellent example.
