“At the end of our experience, we are far from being!” Hermann Horwitz immediately after winning the championship of his club Hertha BSC 1930 in an article. Horwitz (* 1885 in Prenzlauer Berg) is a military doctor in the First World War and from the season 1923/24 sports doctor with Hertha BSC, which became a German champion with him in 1930 and 1931. His association excludes Horwitz on September 26th, 1938 – 80 years ago. In 1943 he was deported to Auschwitz. In 2016 a fan project explores his fate. German football is still struggling to deal with thetime of nationalsocialism. Also for this is the quote from Dr. Hermann Horwitz as motto of the event.
In memory of Dr. Horwitz organized the fans upport of Hertha BSC and the fan project of the sports youth Berlin last year a memorial journey to Auschwitz – which left with all involved its traces.
At the event, the fan project »Spurensuche« on the fate of Dr. Horwitz and then a discussion on “Hertha BSC, Holocaust and the responsibility of German football today”, among others, with the 94-year-old Berlin Holocaust survivor and Hertha member Walter Frankenstein and Andreas Geisel, Senator for Home Affairs and Sport held. The occasion is September 26th, 1938 – the day on which Hertha BSC celebrated Dr. Horwitz had been excluded as a “non-Aryan”.
