We are excited to announce the civil rights organisation New Europeans as the receiver of the Schwarzkopf Europe Award 2019.<\/p>\n
New Europeans focus their work on a shared European identity. The organization is a champion for citizens\u2019 rights in Europe and tirelessly promotes building a \u201cEurope of equality, diversity, freedom and solidarity, anchored in human rights\u201d. New Europeans practise active citizenship through a number of different projects and campaigns. Recently, the organization headed the #GreenCard4Europe proposal, which would preserve the rights of UK citizens in the EU, and EU citizens in the UK in a post-Brexit Europe.<\/p>\n
The Schwarzkopf Europe Award is awarded to institutions or public figures who have distinguished themselves in an outstanding way by a committed and dedicated service to either European understanding or the growing together of Europe. In the past, the awardees were selected by the award winners of the \u201cYoung European of the Year\u201d, an award which is also granted by the Schwarzkopf Foundation. This year\u2019s selection followed a new format. First, a young jury consisting of the previous \u201cYoung European of the Year\u201d awardees, nominated three candidates for the 2019 prize. Then, an online voting process was opened to young people in Europe, age 35 or younger, to choose the final award recipient. New Europeans received the most votes.<\/p>\n
