In the framework of the NECE network (Networking European Citizenship Education<\/span>) we (and the project Understanding Europe<\/em>) are member of the focus group of the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture<\/a>, a model developed by the Council of Europe. By developing a framework which describes the main competences citizens require in order to participate effectively in a democratic society the Council of Europe wishes to increase the focus on these competences in education systems and education practice. The underlying aim is also to empower young people in Europe.<\/p>\n

Since the kick-off workshop in February 2019, focus group members from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland have begun to implement activities aimed at exploring possible uses of RFCDC in their (formal and non-formal) educational contexts. We have integrated presentations of the RFCDC and feedback on it in our Head Trainer Summit. In a next step, the Head Trainers will use RFCDC elements to plan and evaluate training activities in their Understanding Europe<\/em> countries.
